I was completely inspired by a blog out there in blog land that I clicked to after a million clicks that had felt flowers all over a yarn wrapped wreath. Perfect! Right up my alley!
Here's how I did it:
The first flower I made was a simple circle cut into a spiral and wound up on itself. This ciircle of felt is about 4 inches in diameter.
I experimented with several widths of spiral and I liked the reults with about a 1 inch-ish cut.
Doesn't that just look fun!?
A little roll of contrasting fabric made the center.
Roll and glue. Roll and glue. Over and over.
Voila! Doesn't it remind you of a Mary Engelbreit flower? Love!
The Mary Englebreit flower inspired this simple blossom. Two strips of 1/2 inch wide by 12 inch-ish long felt.
Rolled around some yellow felt shreds and joined together with hot glue... (FMG asked if I was making felt sushi)
Finished with a dab of hot glue. So sweet!
The last flower was the most time consuming but was also my favorite! I started with a 2 by 8 inch (ish, again) rectangle.
Cut the felt into fringe leaving about a half of an inch "buffer" on one side.
I somehow neglected to photograph the remaining steps but I used yellow for the center and then rolled the flower up just like the light pink one above, being carefult okeep the bottom flat and the edges lined up. Finish with hot glue and then spreak out the "petals".
The light pink flower in this picture is what the fringe flower above looks like.
There is the flat wreath frame I was talkinig about! The flowers were arranged and hot glued down. I think I would love to make a fully flowered wreath - but my impatience to be done and display outweighed my desire to make more flowers.
All in all I used less than one pre-cut felt sheet of felt for two wreaths. If you bought the felt from a bolt you'd need way less than an eighth of a yard to do this project.
