Betting.
On the amount of time it will take to get through the toasts and speeches.
Genius, really.
One of the groomsmen was in charge of collecting times and money (I think it was 1 GBP per time slot). We bought 18 and 45 - so we were betting it would take 16 or 45 minutes to get through them all.
As the toasts and thanks were starting, a stopwatch (or really, the stopwatch app on a groomsman's phone) was started.
And as the last sip was taken after the last toast was finished, the timer was stopped.
AG, the bride, bought minute 29; and she won the 50 GBP pot!
I'll be starting a one woman campaign to make this a tradition in the states. Nothing goes with eternal love like a little side wager, right?
